Dr. Jeanetta Calhoun Mish.
The current Oklahoma State Poet Laureate is Dr. Jeanetta Calhoun Mish Dr. Mish is a scholar, poet, writer, and teacher whose career in poetry spans more than 20 years. Mish is the director of The Red Earth Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts program at Oklahoma City University.

The Oklahoma Arts Council provides grants to more than 100 arts organizations in Oklahoma. The Council also works on behalf of the Governor to accept nominations for the State Poet Laureate position. They also have many other resources for writers and artists in Oklahoma. Please see link above for details.

The Poetry Society of Oklahoma provides contests, conferences and resources for Oklahoma poets. The best source for updates on the Poetry Society of Oklahoma is their monthly newsletter. Copies of the Society’s newsletters can be found online at their website, (link above).

“For the past several years thousands of Oklahoma high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. Your high school is invited to participate.
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. Please show your support for this important project in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Writers Federation supports Oklahoma writers working in all genres of writing. The Federation of composed of dozens of local Oklahoma writing organizations. It provides resources and virtual online conference. Please see link above for details.

Ada Writers is a group from Ada Oklahoma. They support all genres of writing and provide contests and resources. They had been meeting twice a month at the Ada public library, but you will need to see their site for meeting updates.

Enid Writers Club is a group from Northwest Oklahoma that supports all genres of writing. They had been meeting once a month at Northwest Oklahoma University. Enid Writers Club is the oldest writing club in Oklahoma. They provide resources and writing contests for poets and other writers. Please see link for more information.

** Oklahoma City Writers, Inc** is a nonprofit organization in Oklahoma City that provides contests and resources for writers of all genres. Currently, all monthly meetings are online. Please see site for details.

The Norman Galaxy of Writers is a group of writers from Norman, Oklahoma. They provide writing contests and resources. Currently, monthly meetings are via Zoom. Anyone can attend an online meeting but you will need to be a member to enter a writing contest. More information on the link above.

** The Tulsa Writers Syndicate** was founded to provide networking opportunities for Tulsa writers of all genres. The group is open all local writers. Please see the above link for updates.

** Red Dirt Writers Society** is a group in Gutherie that supports all genres of writing. The Red Dirt Writers provide resources and contests for local writers. They had been meeting in Guthrie. Please see link for updates.

About the author:Steven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States. He has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
